Dubai, a part of the United Arab Emirates, is
about to be blown away with the addition of a new Universal theme park. This 2.2 billion dollar project in the Middle East
would be the fourth Universal studios theme park worldwide.
Government-owned developer, Tatweer, will partner with
the Hollywood-based film studio's resorts to develop this new state of the art facility. The new park will be modeled
after Universal's other theme parks, and will offer Middle eastern vacationers attractions based on movies such as King Kong
and Jurassic Park and designed by creative consultant Steven Spielberg.
The Cheif Executive of Universal Parks and Resorts
was on hand to unvail a model of the Universal City Dubai park on Monday April 30th. The Universal theme park will be the
centerpiece of a gargantuan park called Dubailand, which is being built on the city's desert outskirts and will cover some
6.5 million square-foot. Dubailand is being built as an Orlando-style entertainment zone with several different amusement
parks, offices and housing. Due to the extreamly hot summer temperatures in Dubai
most of the resort will be indoors.
Universal City Dubai expects to bring in visitors from
all over...Asia, Europe and elsewhere in the Middle East when its first phase is could be finished as soon as 2008.
What
is Dubailand? Well think of it as Disney World on steroids in the middle of the desert!
By
any name, though, it's a doozie of a development: a master-planned, full-featured city for tourism, entertainment and leisure.
It is being built to secure Dubai as a premier travel destination for the entire world!
Spanning
107 square miles, the venture is expected to cost $20 billion. It will include 45 mega projects and 200 sub projects. It will
be more than twice the size of all of the Disneyland/Disney World resorts put together, currently the largest collection of
theme parks and attractions in the world.
And
the plans for Dubailand keep expanding. On Monday April 30th 2007, shown above, U.S.-based Universal Studios announced
it would develop its own theme park within Dubailand at a cost of $2.2 billion and work has already started and the park is now running ahead of it's estimated compleation schedual.
The first of four phases comprising the development of Dubailand will be completed in early 2008. Completion
of the final phases will extend to 2020
